See if there’s a fishing shop near you, ask the staff there. If not look in the argos catalogue and look under fishing. I got my first rod from there. You could get a starter pack from as cheap as £15!
If your fishing over a pier or something like that, make sure the rod is not too small or too light otherwise your rod will be in the water lol.

Suggestion!!! If you are going to fish in the sea, first go to a pier where you can rent a rod, reel, and purchase bait. Hang out with the other folks fishing there and try out the rental you are using. You will learn a lot. This way you can be certain you want to take up fishing again before you spend a lot of money. And you might make some new fishing buddies who can help you more then anyone can online……… Good Luck

No uptide rods are quite heavy duty and spinning rods are quite light weight. Uptiding is a type of boat fishing where you put your bait uptide, whereas the natural way would be down tide and the tide will take your bait away from you and enable you to fish a tight line. With uptiding you have a bow in the line. Most people catch most fish by dropping their line straight down over the side. Keep it simple I say

there are many good rods to choose from i own a few beachcasters including a diawa high performance but when it comes to the tops in my books i have 2 rods by zzipplex the old tz 500 and the double gold which are excellent rods

my answer is that a argos fishing kit for a beginner is a good start but u could get better like Daiwa one of my favorites that i use and a 1BB size 20 just means the size of line till the breaking point.

Depends what they are made from but I have never had a fishing rod reach end of life. Look after your equipment and they should out last you. A good way to preserve them is PVC piping to store them.

I would expect a good fishing rod to last over 50 years if looked after correctly.
